Meet Heather
Communications & Marketing Strategist
Hey there! I’m Heather.
I’m passionate about communications and marketing, dogs, motorsports and making a positive impact.
I’m the CEO of High Gear Consulting. That includes my two brands: High Gear Success, which encompasses motorsports communications and marketing, and High Gear Strategy, which includes my resume and LinkedIn services. Prior to consulting, I served as the Director of Member Activity at the American Motorcyclist Association.
As a chief instructor for Motorcycle Ohio, I train instructors in the MORE curriculum so they can teach individuals how to ride streetbikes and improve their safety skills. I’m also an MSF RiderCoach. Safety is of utmost importance to me, and I want to empower others to ride safely.
I’m momma to two lovable, special needs golden retrievers and love spending time outdoors. Whether it’s walking the dogs or on a motorcycle. Ohio has beautiful landscape, and I also enjoy traveling across the country in my free time.
My Experience
I have a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, with specializations in public relations and marketing, from Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, one of the top journalism schools in the nation. I also earned minor in organizational communications and a certificate in professional sales.
Following graduation, I moved across the country to Orange County, Calif. to work for the Motorcycle Industry Council, Motorcycle Safety Foundation, ATV Safety Institute and Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association.
After figuring out I was more of a Midwest gal, I moved back to Ohio to begin working for the AMA.
Community Involvement
I am am a proud Ohio 4-H alumna. I spent 10 years in the program, and it remains near to my heart. My experience ranged from training and showing dogs to leadership opportunities to serving as the 2010 Ohio Fairs’ Queen and traveling to 88 fairs throughout Ohio. I now volunteer with the program and serve as the president of the Fairfield County 4-H Endowment Board.
I’ve fostered three service dogs in-training for 4 Paws for Ability, raising and socializing puppies from the time they were 4 to 9 months old. In 2015, my second foster puppy was released from the program, and I adopted him. He’s now a therapy dog that visits nursing homes, elementary schools and more.
